The lucky couple arrived on Sunday at the Riessersee Hotel in Garmisch-Partenkirchen to relax a little bit before the wedding on Tuesday. That did not work very well, the poor bride had an accident on Monday and we had to call the ambulance. Thank god there was an happy end – she got back for the rehearsal dinner in the city of Garmisch-Partenkirchen tonight and everybody was very relieved.
Next morning the getting ready took place at the Riessersee Suite in the lake house with a little lunch break for the bridal party with pretzels and Prosecco. The groom went to Garmisch the day before to buy a Bavarian “Tracht” (traditional cloth) for the wedding at the Trachtenmodehaus Grasegger and the bride had a gorgeous elegant white dress.
Later in the afternoon the guests – most of them arrived the day before – met with the groom on the lake terrace for a Bavarian snack with liver loaf, radish, red radish, lard, “Obazda” (marinated Camembert cheese), “Fleischpflanzerl” (meatballs) with potato salad in glasses and other delicacies. The tables were layed for coffee, food and drinks in the wedding colours orange and yellow.
At 5 in the late afternoon a short wedding ceremony took place on the floating terrace on the lake with a friend of the couple as speaker.
Flower basket with rose petals in wedding colours |
The couple had brought a cute little wooden box with their initials for the wedding rings and a wooden basket for more rose petals for the ceremony.
After the ceremony the reception started on the Riessersee raft. The raft is equipped with electric motors and so the wedding party left for a round trip on the lake with heart-shaped pretzels (Bäckerei Eichhorn Garmisch-Partenkirchen) and a barrel of beer, tapped by the groom. Beer mugs with a special designed wedding crest where ordered by bride and groom before and given to the guests as a wedding favor.
Wood cutting is an old Bavarian custom, the first “team work” for the newly weds – and they managed it perfectly!
Time for dinner! The seating plan on the entrance of the lake house helped everyone to find his place in the lake-side restaurant with the panorama view to the Bavarian mountains.
The wedding theme was orange, yellow and Gerbera daisies. The flowers where brought by wedding planner Julia Capalbo and planted in our silver mercury glass vases. We added white table and chair cloth, large silver candelabers with white candles and white wood lanterns for the room decor. The cloth napkins were folded as pockets with the menu cards (Gerbera style, die Kartenmacherei) inside and the name tags placed on it.
Head table, Mr. & Mrs. sign for the couple |
The cutting of the cake took place later in the evening. It was a cupcake wedding cake made by the Konditorei Kroenner in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. A cheese cake on top and mixed cupcakes on the lower etageres, all in the wedding design orange, yellow and Gerbera daisies.
And there is one thing a fall wedding should never miss: A cosy fire side place!
The excellent dinner menu was followed by a great party night! After breakfast next morning at the Riessersee Hotel the wedding party left to travel to Munich and visit the Oktoberfest for the brides birthday. A really great idea to extend the celebrations a little bit.
I hope, everyone had a save trip home and Texas will meet Bavaria again soon!
