“Life is better at the lake”
So true, especially if it´s your wedding day. I was lucky to be chosen as the wedding planner of Heather and Adam for their destination wedding in Germany, Bavaria, at lake Tegernsee. It was kind of “sporty” because we only had four month to do the whole planning. Heather had already chosen the wonderful Bootshaus am Tegernsee as their wedding venue but everything else was needed. No time to lose!
Venue, vendors, schedule
Time is running fast when you are planning a wedding but we made it. Heather and Adam had never been to Germany before and so they needed really a lot of phantasy and trust. There are a lot of differences between a German and a US wedding but they were open to integrate German wedding traditions and at least it was a perfect mixture on a perfect, sunny lake day. We found in the 4 months photographer, florist, speaker for the symbolic ceremony, stylist, musicians, DJ, we decided on wedding menu, drinks, wedding cake, thought about a sail boat trip (but cancelled because of the schedule), designed the wedding signs, menu cards and name tags, booked the rehearsal dinner together with a boat trip over lake Tegernsee, got individual ginger bread hears as wedding favors and lots more. For colours Heather decided on shades of lilac and lavender.
Wedding ceremony
The symbolic ceremony took place in the Hotel Terrassenhofs garden. The wedding venue Bootshaus belongs to the hotels, that made it easy for the guests to relax and join the wedding in time. The garden offers a wonderful view to lake Tegernsee and the hotel prepared sunshades and benches with white covers.
Cocktail hour
After the ceremony everyone went to the hotels Biergarten under shady chestnut trees to get some refreshing summer drinks and finger food while the couple left for their photo shooting.
Wedding dinner & party
Meanwhile the dinner area was prepared at the Bootshaus with a large glass front and balcony to lake Tegernsee. The couple decided on a Sweetheart table and round tables for the guests.
Wedding cake
It´s a German tradition to have coffee and cake in the afternoon but on a hot summer day I prefer the “American style” to cut the cake after dinner and that´s exactly what they did.
Heather had some really nice ideas to keep the guests engaged like a photo guestbook, funny favors, official dances, announcements etc. But my favorite that day was the sparkler sent off. The moon was high above the lake, it was a warm summer night and everyone was in the mood of love and party, the sparklers where the dot on the i.
They celebrated into the small hours and it was close to sunset when I was home on my way to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Usually, I stay the night at the venue but there was another wedding the next day and Tegernsee is not to far from my home base. I was really tired but happy we made this dream wedding work within 4 month only. Thank you again, Heather and Adam, for all your trust and the wonderful wedding with you!
