Winter mountain wedding as its best
A winter wedding in the mountains of Bavaria, Germany, that was what Tori and Grant were looking for. The date was February 24, 2024 and our wedding venue the Salzbergalm in Berchtesgaden. Well, in that year it was “poor snow” winter, by the beginning of February the temperatures were going up and it was much more spring feeling the winter. When I arrived Friday in Berchtesgaden to take care of the rehearsal dinner arrangements in the Hotel Schwabenwirt downtown Berchtesgaden and to meet Tori and Grant the first time it was raining and raining and rainging. Sad situation. But bride and groom kept the chins up. And the Salzbergalm was so warm and welcoming and made us forget the poor weather. The rehearsal dinner and meet and greet was even better and so everybody went to bed with a good feeling for the wedding day. And what none of us expected happened: It started to snow in the night and next morning we woke up in a winterwonderland in the mountains! The sun was shining from a deep blue heaven and fresh snow was glittering all arount. It started to melt again during the day but – as you can see on the pictures – it was still enough to make the wedding a winter fairytale!
Getting ready at the Salzbergalm
The wedding party was accomodated at the Salzbergalm, while the rest of family and friends stayed at the Schwabenwirt downtown Berchtesgaden. The beautiful bride and her entourage had the getting ready up at the cottage in the mountains with its breathtaking view to the surrounding snowy mountains so she just had to walk down the stairs to the ceremony. The groom and grooms men had their own area for the getting ready to have the first look at the altar.
Symbolic ceremony – outdoor with mountain view
The Salzbergalm offers a fantastic option for winter weddings: a Wintergarten. Glass walls around the patio keep away the icy winter wind and if case of rain the roof top can be closed. There are even heaters and blankets so everyone has the feeling of sitting right in the middle of nature – but comfortable and warm. The set-up was overlooking the wintry mountains and Berchtesgaden – it was absolutely stunning. A friend of the family hold the ceremony and he did a fantastic job (I had goose skin!). Could not have been better…

Wedding dinner at Salzbergalm
The set-up for the dinner was made by the Salzbergalm team according to the brides ideas about colours and flowers. Everything was beautiful, not over the top, just matching the venue style absolutely perfect. Tori and Grant got their menu and seating cards printed in the US and brought them along – a perfect match!
Cutting the cake
Always a magic moment and even if everyone had a fantastic menu there is still room for cake!
Wedding nights & winter lights
The sunset was breath-taking – but even better was the winter night up on the Salzbergalm. The view down to the illuminated town of Berchtesgaden, the full moon above the Alm, candlelight and firepits, it was unbelievable romantic and stunning (and yes, I have had already a few winter weddings ;)). The sparkler send off was the cherry on the pie…
