Winter elopement at Eibsee, Bavarian alps

Pre-Christmas wedding

Short before Christmas, on December 21, this marvellous elopement took place in the heart of the Bavarian alps, in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Grainau. Bride and groom had their accomodation at the Mountain Hideaway Das Graseck in a beautiful suite with mountain panorama. After the Getting Ready a driver picked them up at the valley station and brought them to the meeting place with the horse and carriage next to our office. There we handed out the bridal bouquet and boutonniere. R´s wish was to match the colour of M´s elegant maroon suit and add some matching colors. We had some fruit punch, skins and blankets in the sleigh to make sure the two of them won´t get cold. Thomas, the driver, started a lovely tour outside of Garmisch with them and we had a quick photo stop with the full panorama of the Wetterstein mountains in the backdrop on the snowy meadows. This was the perfect way to start the wedding day, time for two and to relax.

Don´t miss the German Christmas markets!

R & M already had made a little tour to visit German Christmas markets in Frankfurt, Heidelberg, Rothenburg and Munich and they loved all of them! So we decided to involve the little Christkindl market of Garmisch-Partenkirchen as well and did a quick „stop over“ after the horse sleigh ride. The sleigh stopped right next to the market and we had Gluehwein, hot chocolate, ginger bread hearts, schnaps – and some great pictures! Afterwards, we headed of to the famous lake Eibsee. Thanks to Marc, the photographer, we did not lose time because he had the car parked nearby!

Eibsee – THE mountain lake

Lake Eibsee is probably one of the most famous mountain lakes in Germany. In summer it is often crowded, even in the early morning hours there are influencers, photographers, models and couples for engangements around. But in winter, especially in the later afternoon, it´s getting quiet up here and it is the perfect place for an outdoor wedding ceremony, especially if it´s only bride and and groom. The view is simply stunning, the rough rocks of the Zugspitze, the sophisticated Eibsee Hotel at the shore, snowy firs and the emerald colour of the frozen lake. It´s winters magic fairytale.

It was only the four of us, bride, groom, photographer and me as the coordinator and officiant. And memories that will last a life time. Of course we also brought a bottle of champagne to toast! And for the way back after sunset and some extra wedding pictures we had „special effects“ like fairy lights, sparklers and torches. The atmosphere on this special wedding night was simply indescribable.
