Destination weddings are always a challenge. Most often the couple is not able to see the venue before the big day – or only one time and then has to imagine how it could look like. It needs for sure a lot of trust and for us, it´s even more demanding. But when the couple walks in on the wedding day and you see the smile on their faces, how overwhelmed they are, seeing their vision came true – all the work is forgotten.
Lake-side ceremony with mountain view
This summer wedding took place at lake Pflegersee in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The picturesque little lake is surrounded by mountains and forests and the lake-side restaurant Berggasthof Pflegersee has a great covered terrace with lake-view. The perfect setting for a festival style wedding. The ceremony place is on the other side of the lake, a five minutes walk from the restaurant, on a stage above the water. To give the area the festival flair we have chosen colorful summer flowers and ribbons, craft paper bags with petals to toss, handwritten chalk boards and a loop arch with fabrics. Everything was „handmade with love„.
Cocktail hour & alp horns
One of the highlights that are offered at lake Pflegersee are alp horn players in the middle of the lake on a floating platform. Perfect to welcome your wedding guests in Bavaria, bring in some Bavarian tradition and relax while having a beer or glass of champagne.
During the cocktail hour the wedding cake was served and the guests were able to choose a hand-made favor (beer jelly or Schnaps or liqueur) from the market cart.
Wedding dinner on the lake terrace
We love decorating the Pflegersee lake terrace. Sometimes we change even the furniture but in this case the dark wicker chairs were a nice contrast to the colourful festival summer wedding decoration. On the ceiling we used about 250 m fairy light strings (sorry, no pictures of this – but check out other Pflegersee posts for it ;)). For the tables we took white table cloth and napkins, church candles in cylinder glasses, slate place plates and colorful flower bouquets as well as sustainable succulents (to be re-used in the guests garden) and driftwood.
