Garmisch-Partenkirchen is the perfect place for mountain weddings
A winter suprise in May – and a perfect day after all was this amazing elopement. Some wedding days don’t go according to plan – and turn out even better because of it. This intimate elopement on the Alpspitze in Garmisch-Partenkirchen was originally planned as a relaxed spring wedding in the Bavarian Alps. Blooming meadows, mild temperatures, soft sunlight. Instead, May surprised us with a sudden winter comeback up on the summits: snow, ice, dramatic clouds and alpine temperatures. But with a good portion flexibility, trust and the right team, this unexpected turn created a truly unforgettable mountain elopement experience.

Getting Ready – cozy and relaxed.
The day started quiet and stress-free in a cozy family-run guesthouse in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where the couple was spending their vacation. No hectic timelines, no big bridal party – just the two of them, enjoying breakfast, laughter, the view to the church and the mountains and the excitement of what was to come. While the stylist was with the bride, the groom had coffee and small talks with the photographer and wedding planner. This relaxed getting ready set the tone for the entire day: intentional, intimate and deeply personal.

Symbolic ceremony high above Garmisch-Partenkirchen
Under the top of Alpspitze, surrounded by snow-covered peaks and drifting clouds, the couple exchanged vows during a small symbolic ceremony. Just the essentials: the bride and groom, a breathtaking alpine backdrop, silence, wind, and emotion. The snow beneath our feet and the icy air made the moment even more powerful. Nature didn’t just frame the ceremony – it became part of it.

Elopement photography between snow, ice, clouds and sunshine
After the ceremony, we continued with an adventurous elopement photoshoot at several iconic locations: Osterfelderkopf with the Alpspitze as a stunning backdrop, the AlpspiX, floating above the valleys with dramatic views and finally down at the Hochalm, where the atmosphere softened again and the temperatures where a bit warmer.
The contrast was stunning: icy landscapes, rugged mountain peaks, soft clouds drifting through the valleys – and a couple having just fun and enjoying their time together. These are the kinds of memories that only mountain elopements can create.
5 extra wedding planner tipps for days like these:

- Ski underwear is a total game changer! Invisible but keeps you warm!
- Take not only warm jackets but also some blankets with you. Wrap up inbetween or use it for pictures where you might sit on the ground.
- A hot water bottle and a thermo with hot water can save your life!
- Save your bouquet! Fresh flowers don´t love the cold, they freeze and once you get in the get brown and ugly. When you don´t need your bouquet for pictures, wrap it in layers of newspaper.
- Skin is not made for the cold. Cream, lip balm and something to drink – like tea or water – should be in your emergency case!
A wedding team that makes the difference
Mountain weddings always require experience, flexibility and trust. Weather can change quickly – especially in the Alps. Thanks to a well-coordinated and calm team, the couple never had to worry. The stylist decided spontaneous to come with us to the top to make sure the styling was on point all day. And at the end of the day, we even captured a few fun behind-the-scenes moments, showing that joy and laughter are just as much part of the story as the ceremony itself.
